Fascia and Soffit Repair in Tyler, TX & East Texas
Redline Roofing repairs, replaces and installs fascia boards and soffit panels on homes and commercial buildings across East Texas, including Big Sandy, White Oak, Ben Wheeler, Chandler, Kilgore and Jacksonville. We are family owned, licensed, bonded and insured, and our own crews have worked on East Texas rooflines for more than 20 years. Fascia and soffit work is usually part of a roof repair, a gutter replacement or a maintenance visit, and we handle all of it under one crew. Call (903) 437-7049 for a free roofline inspection.
What Fascia and Soffit Are (and Why They Fail)
The fascia is the vertical board that runs along the lower edge of your roof, right behind the gutter. It caps the ends of the rafters, supports the gutter, and carries the drip edge that directs water off the roof deck. The soffit is the horizontal panel underneath the eave, between the fascia and the wall. It closes off the rafter tails and, on most homes, carries the intake vents that let air into the attic.
Both are exposed to more water than almost any other part of the house. Rain runs over the fascia every storm, clogged gutters hold water against it for days, and a missing drip edge lets water wick behind it. In East Texas, where humidity stays high for most of the year, wood fascia that loses its paint will start to rot within a few seasons. Once the fascia goes soft, gutters pull loose, the soffit sags, and squirrels, birds and wasps move into the attic through the gaps.
Fascia and Soffit Services We Provide
Fascia Board Repair
When rot or damage is limited to a few feet, we cut out the bad section, sister or replace the rafter tail if it is soft, and splice in a new board with primed and sealed ends. We reset the drip edge and gutter hangers so the repair sheds water correctly rather than just covering the damage.
Fascia Replacement and Installation
When rot runs along a full eave or the fascia was never installed properly, we replace it end to end. You can choose primed wood, PVC composite (which does not rot), or aluminum-wrapped fascia that never needs paint. We install new drip edge flashing under the shingles and over the fascia so water cannot get behind the board again. New fascia installation is also part of most roof replacements where the old boards are in poor shape.
Soffit Repair and Replacement
We replace sagging, water-stained or animal-damaged soffit with vented aluminum, vinyl or fiber cement panels. If your attic has no intake ventilation, we can add continuous or individual soffit vents while the panels are open. Balanced attic ventilation reduces attic heat in summer and moisture buildup in winter, which is good for both your shingles and your cooling bills.
Storm Damage to Fascia, Soffit and Gutters
Straight-line winds peel soffit panels and rip gutters, and the fascia usually comes with them. When we perform a free storm damage inspection, we photograph the roofline along with the roof so your insurance claim includes the fascia, soffit and gutters.
Fascia and Soffit with Gutter Replacement
Gutters can only hang on solid fascia. If you are replacing gutters, we check the fascia first and replace any soft sections before the new gutters go up. See our gutter and exterior construction services.
Signs Your Fascia or Soffit Needs Repair
• Peeling or bubbling paint along the roofline
• Gutters sagging, pulling away, or overflowing at one spot
• Soft, crumbling or discolored wood behind the gutter
• Soffit panels that are stained, sagging or missing
• Squirrels, birds or wasps entering the eaves
• Water stains on the ceiling near an exterior wall
• Attic that is extremely hot in summer, which can point to blocked or missing soffit vents
• Visible gaps where the fascia meets the roof deck or the soffit
Why Fascia Fails Faster in East Texas
Three local factors do most of the damage. First, rainfall and humidity: the Piney Woods stay wet for much of the year, and painted wood at the roof edge dries slowly. Second, pine pollen and leaf litter: the tall pines and oaks around Big Sandy, Hawkins and Gilmer fill gutters quickly, and a clogged gutter holds water against the fascia. Third, storms: the National Severe Storms Laboratory classifies hail of one inch or larger as severe, and the same spring storms that bring that hail bring the straight-line winds that tear soffit and fascia loose.
The cure is not complicated: drip edge on every eave, gutters that are kept clear, sealed end grain on every board, and materials that do not rot. The roof edge is also where wind damage starts, which is why the IBHS FORTIFIED Roof standard calls for a wider drip edge and a fully adhered starter strip at the eaves. We install to that detail on request.
Repair or Replace?
Condition | Usual Recommendation |
Rot in one or two short sections, rafter tails sound | Section repair with new drip edge |
Rot along most of an eave, or several rafter tails soft | Full fascia replacement on that run, rafter tail repair |
Soffit stained but solid, vents blocked | Clean, add vents, repaint |
Soffit sagging, animal damage, or panels missing | Replace soffit with vented panels |
Fascia failing and roof replacement due | Replace fascia during the re-roof so drip edge and shingles are installed in the right order |
Our Fascia and Soffit Repair Process
1. Free inspection. We walk the roofline, probe suspect boards, check the drip edge and look at the attic ventilation.
2. Written scope. You get a clear list of what is being repaired, what is being replaced, and what materials we will use.
3. Gutter removal. Gutters are taken down carefully and reused or replaced per the scope.
4. Remove damaged boards and panels. Rotted fascia and failed soffit come off, and rafter tails are inspected.
5. Structural repair. Any soft rafter tails or sub-fascia are sistered or replaced.
6. Install new fascia, drip edge and soffit. Boards are primed and sealed at every cut; drip edge is tucked under the underlayment; soffit vents are added where needed.
7. Rehang gutters and finish. Gutters are reset with new hangers, seams are sealed, and paint or wrap is finished to match.
8. Walk-through and cleanup. We show you the finished work and leave the yard clean.
